A perfect mix of history, food and wine and breathtaking landscapes without neglecting the needs of the family and children. Ten well-organised days with a schedule full of visits, surprises and tastings that will make you discover Sicily and Malta from different points of view, leaving you with an indelible memory of an amazing holiday! 10 days between Malta and Sicily

The tour begins in Malta, the small island in the center of the Mediterranean, a crossroads of different cultures and traditions through the centuries, enriched by its colonial past as part of the British Empire. After crossing the Malta Channel in just 90 minutes, you will begin your tour of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean. The Sicilian days will lead to the discovery of various UNESCO heritage sites, fascinating ancient cities, where time seems to have stopped. The entire tour is enriched by various food and wine experiences, to learn about the specialties and culinary excellence of these two islands.

How the Tour develops, timing and itinerary

Day 1 – Malta

Arrival at Valletta airport, private transfer to the hotel, check in, free time, dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 2 – Valletta, Mdina

Breakfast, departure for an excursion to discover the two Maltese capitals over the centuries. Private guide who also provides assistance during the tour of the capital, Valletta. On this day you will visit the Cathedral of St. John inside the masterpieces of Caravaggio, the Barraca Gardens with a panoramic view of the port of Valletta, the visit continues to the palace of the Grand Master which houses the Maltese Parliament. A sweet stop is planned in a historic café in the centre, to taste local sweets, the famous pastizzi and qassatat, accompanied by the Maltese drink Kinnie. There will be free time for shopping and lunch. Later in the day you will visit the fascinating fortified city of Mdina, the ancient capitals of Malta under Arab domination. The tour includes a stop at St. Paul’s Church and time to walk and enjoy the panoramic view from the Mdina Belvedere. Return and overnight stay.

 

Day 3 – Panoramic tour Three cities, Marsaxlokk, Blue Cave

With a private car and driver you will be accompanied to the beautiful area of Cottonera, visiting the ancient cities of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. A visit to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk is unmissable, with its fishing boats (luzzus) painted in bright colors in red, blue and yellow. Walking, browsing the local market stalls and a lunch in a typical fish restaurant will close the first part of the day. After lunch, head towards the west coast, to visit Wied iz-Zurrieq. You will visit, by boat, the Blue Grotto, a deep sea cave where the waters are renowned for being pure and transparent. The tour takes you back to the hotel with a coach that runs along the Dingli cliffs passing through the Maltese countryside. Free time, dinner (not included) concludes the 3rd day.

 

Day 4 – Gozo Island

After breakfast, you will be taken by a private English-speaking driver and a local guide to the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal from 8:30 to 9:00. You will reach the island of Gozo after a 20-minute ferry crossing in which you will sail alongside the small island of Comino. In Gozo, you will be accompanied by your guide on a 6-hour tour that includes:

 

The Ta’ Pinu Cathedral;

Dwejra;

Xlendi Bay;

the megalithic temples of Ggantija;

the capital Victoria;

the local market in St. Georges Square.

Free time for lunch in the picturesque Xlendi Bay. Return to the hotel is expected around 4:00 – 4:30 pm. Free time at leisure.

Day 5 – Hagar Qim megalithic temples, artisan village, traditional Maltese lunch

After breakfast there is a transfer to the southern part of the island where you can visit the megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. These megalithic temples date back 5,500 years and are the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world, even older than Stonehenge and the pyramids. 500 meters from Hagar Qim is the megalithic temple of Mnajdra. Free time to discover the workshops of local artisans, including glass blowing, before heading to the nearby rural village of Dingli, where you will experience authentic Maltese cuisine on a traditional rural farm. Traditional dishes such as the famous stewed rabbit or bragioli, dried tomatoes and butter beans, Gozo cheeselets or Maltese baked Ftira. In the afternoon return to the hotel and free time.

 

Day 6 – Valletta, Pozzallo, Ragusa

Private transfer to the port of Valletta and boarding the catamaran to reach the Sicilian port of Pozzallo, the journey lasts only 90 minutes. Arrival in Sicily and private transfer to the hotel, located in Ragusa. Sicily to eat, you will have the opportunity to eat in a farmhouse for a first taste of Sicilian cuisine. After lunch, guided tour of Ragusa, the historic center (cradle of Sicilian Baroque), the Cathedral, in the splendid setting of the Piazza del Duomo and the “Ibleo garden”. We remind you that Ragusa Iblas is included among the 44 Italian World Heritage sites. Free time to walk in the center or to enjoy a glass of Sicilian wine. Free dinner and overnight stay in Ragusa.

 

Day 7 – Ragusa, Noto, Syracuse

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque, also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It will be possible to admire the palaces, convents and churches that characterize the historic center, among which the Duomo, Palazzo Nicolaci Villadorata and Palazzo Ducezio stand out. Lunch will be held in a local restaurant and in the afternoon we will move to Syracuse, where you will visit the Archaeological Park of Neapolis (Greek Theatre, Roman Amphitheatre, Latomie and “Ear of Dionysus) and the historic center of Ortigia. You will be enchanted by the splendid Piazza Duomo and its baroque Cathedral which in the past was a Greek temple in Doric style. Then, along the delightful alleys of the center, you will admire the famous Fonte Aretusa, located in front of the Porto Grande. Return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight stay in Syracuse.

 

Day 8 – Syracuse, Mount Etna, Catania

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe and one of the most visited and popular destinations in Sicily. In absolute safety you travel along the main points, the Silvestri Craters, the scene of past and recent eruptions. At the end of the tour we will visit the Gambino winery where it is possible to taste a wine with grapes that undergo particular pedoclimatic conditions of Etna. The temperature variations between day and night allow for a unique phenolic and aromatic maturation. Lunch and wine tasting and in the afternoon return to Catania. Check-in at the hotel and free dinner.

 

Day 9 – Catania, Taormina

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Taormina, 4-hour guided tour of the fascinating city including the famous Greek Theatre, the Odeon a small Roman theatre, Palazzo Corvaja, Stop in Piazza Belvedere along the main street, Corso Umberto, to enjoy of the wonderful view of the picturesque coast and the skyline dominated by the mighty Mount Etna.

You will have time to stroll through the picturesque streets, go shopping and browse through the local craftsmanship. In the early afternoon I return to Catania. Farewell dinner in a local restaurant located in the center and overnight stay.

 

Day 10 – Catania and departure

Breakfast in the hotel. Private transfer to Catania airport.
